This serving tray was made from a 750 ml wine bottle which has been slumped
into my handmade ceramic mold to create raised edges and a tapered handle from
the neck of the bottle. I have slumped it in a way that allows me to replace
the cork after firing to add a bit more character to the piece. The bottle
measures approximately 11 5/8" (29.4 cm) long (not counting the cork), by 3
7/8" (9.8 cm) wide).
This listing is for one GREEN serving tray with cork. The actual tray may vary
slightly from the one pictured since there is some variation in bottles and
Looking for that unique conversation piece for your next party or housewarming
gift? You've found it!
These lovely one of a kind up-cycled wine bottle serving trays offer a
beautiful alternative to the traditional appetizer tray or can even be used as
an individual plate or spoon rest. Most of the people who have seen these are
amazed how the things they usually would put in their trash or recycle bins can
be re-purposed into something so fun and functional. What a great conversation
starter at your next party or gift giving opportunity!
I collect the empty bottles from friends and family, and contribute to the
cause myself as well (smile). I remove the labels and clean them, then I fire
up my kiln to 1450 degrees. Depending on the shape, some are fired a second
time on top of one of my handmade ceramic molds. Each one comes out a little
different. Once the bottle has flattened, I follow a strict annealing schedule
to bring the glass back down to room temperature to make sure the glass is nice

Each piece may have slight variations in tones of the color glass and bottle
shape due to the minor variations in different brands of bottles used.
Variations can also be caused due to the way the glass slumped down into the
mold making each piece unique, but very similar to the item pictured.
To ensure a long life of your glassware, I recommend hand-washing. If you are
going to be using it as a spoon rest, please do not place it too close to, or
on top of a hot burner. The uneven heating of the glass can cause the piece to
crack. I also do not recommend placing this item in the microwave for the same
uneven heating reason.
