Handcrafted knife display made of end grain ambrosia maple with walnut
accents. Get out your special knives from where no one can see them and make
them a conversation piece on display, use it in the kitchen everyday, display
your collector knives, or give as the perfect gift. This solid ambrosia maple
and walnut knife display will hold four knives and has an end grain butcher
block base giving it stability and support. End grain can best be described as
wood that has its end fibers exposed making it more durable then edge grain.
The block cutting board style construction lets the knives dry in the open
eliminating the moisture that becomes trapped in an enclosed knife holder. It
protects the handles and blades from damage caused from being stored in a
drawer. The walnut knife supports have been drilled in the center along with
the ambrosia maple base. Using wooden rods and glues the knife supports are
attached to the base assuring they will never come apart. The knife display has
been hand rubbed with linseed oil bringing out the natural wood grain and
beautiful color of the wood. Unlike other maple's the ambrosia maple's
appearance of the wood is actually caused by the Ambrosia beetle that carries a
fungus on its legs that causes the discoloration. Walnut is a favorite wood
species for many people, as its rich brown color and strength puts the wood in
a class by itself that only gets better with age. Each knife holder we make is
salvaged from down or storm damaged trees, milled at our Indiana home and aged
naturally, not mass produced. With its warm colors and rustic charm this knife
holder will bring out the beauty of your knives.
You can keep this one of a kind knife display looking brand new for many years
to come with an occasional wipe down of natural linseed oil or furniture
polish. You will be getting the exact knife display shown in the pictures.
